Imagination Rules, Even When Learning a Flashmob Dance

I love this video by AsapSCIENCE about the power of the mind and it’s ability to affect physical change! The video shows how simply imagining can make things so. In other words, it shows us how powerful our imaginations are.

They cite two studies which show that imagining something (in the learning and exercising contexts) causes the result to manifest in the physical world. In one study that I found particularly shocking, imagining that one is working out can actually build muscles!

One Bilion Rising

I am going to be in a flashmob dance for One Billion Rising organized by my friend and colleague, Magalie Bonneau-Marcil and the Her Rising project.

ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME.

ONE BILLION WOMEN VIOLATED IS AN ATROCITY

ONE BILLION WOMEN DANCING IS A REVOLUTION

On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14 February 2013, we are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

What does ONE BILLION look like? On 14 February 2013, it will look like a REVOLUTION.

Initially I tried practicing with the video on the One Billion Rising site but I found it difficult since I was seeing a mirror image of what I needed to do. Luckily I found Youtube Mirror which does horizontal flip of a youtube video and displays it like a mirror. You just replace youtube.com in the url with youtubemirror.com, and viola, you’re watching a mirror image video.

Last night I had wanted to practice since I hadn’t had a chance earlier, but my daughter Melia was sleeping. Butas I was lying in bed, I remembered the above video on the Power of Thought that Melia and I had watched earlier as we dabbled on the Youtube Trends blogsite. So last night and this morning, I practiced my steps in my head, laying in my bed.

Imagination Heals
Seeing the power of our imaginations showing up as a trending video was especially exciting for me at this moment, given that we are launching a new program called Imagination Heals! which brings positive music, books and live performances to hospitalized children. The pre-Oscars, red carpet launch event is February 22nd, 2013 at the Beverly Hills Hilton and being presented by A Forever Recovery & Per Wickstrom. The event will be webcast.

  1. I love that, I do yoga in my head, in my bed, in the morning and have actually written some fairly extensive pieces in my head and then transcribed them later. Thanks for reminding me of this! I’ll do the dancin, too! Hugs and kisses to Melia!
